Why Pre-ordering Books is Great for Authors and Readers (and makes a great birthday gift). Plus, Pre-order Bonuses!

Pre-order How to Be a Happier Parent by August 24

Happy Birthday to me!

It really is my birthday. And—my personal celebration—I’m finally actually asking you to pre-order my book, How to Be a Happier Parent. I love it, and I think you will too—it’s a practical, thoroughly researched guide to bringing more joy into our everyday family life, not by doing more (please, no) but by doing things differently.

I’m also telling you why pre-ordering the book matters, and what I’ve come up with to make those pre-orders fun and worthwhile. I know some of you have already clicked “buy now” or put in your order at your local bookstore. THANK YOU—and don’t worry, you’re totally in for the bonuses that follow.

So here’s the scoop—pre-orders count big-time. Booksellers look to them to gauge interest in a book and use them to place orders. So the more pre-orders, the more orders, and the more orders, the more books in the store. The more books in the store, the more likely people are to see and buy the book, and the more likely it is that I’ll be able to write another one and ask you to buy it.

But wait, you’re saying, that’s how it helps you! What about me? What about me?

Well, from most places, you get a guaranteed lowest price—as in, pre-order at whatever price, and if they drop it before the on-sale date, you get that lower price. But more relevantly, you get fun bonuses. Pre-order bonuses that go away completely once the book is on shelves. And here they are:

Bonus #1: A free photo album

What could make a parent happier than a photo book filled with favorite pix? Chatbooks is the photobook that makes itself. Just connect your phone, and the Chatbooks app finds your best photos, excludes duplicates and screen shots and fills a book for you to edit. It’s that easy, and the first 1,000 people to pre-order the book will get a code good for a free Chatbook with free shipping—or $15 towards one of the bigger books if you don’t go basic.

Bonus #2: Happier Morning printables

What’s the first chapter of How to Be a Happier Parent? Mornings. Because, as I say in the first line, mornings are the worst. Pre-order the book, and get a free downloadable One-Page Guide to Happier Mornings, with a bonus printable to hang up in your kids’ bathroom: 10 Snuggly Reasons to Get Lots of Sleep. (Seriously, we need to sell our kids on sleep—and research shows teaching them why sleep matters works! A version of this has hung in my kids’ bathroom for years.)

Bonus #3: Virtual book group discussion

Pre-order copies for your whole book group (6 or more) and I’ll virtually come chat. If you have, say, one of those big rolling bots, I will happily inhabit that—or we could take the more normally accepted Facetime or Skype route.

Getting the bonuses is simple.

  1. Pre-order any version of the book at whatever retailer you prefer (Your local bookseller, Indiebound, Amazon or Barnes & Noble). You can even pre-order the audio version (read by me!) at libro.fm. Or Audible.
  2. Forward your receipt to happierparent@gmail.com.
  3. Check your inbox for a link to instantly access your bonuses.

That’s it! I’ve been planning this for over a year (and working on the book for even longer). I can’t wait to get it into your hands! I am so appreciative of all the support you have offered me. I hope you love the book as much as I do.

Oh—these bonuses really do go away completely on August 24. Grab a copy of the book now so you don’t miss out!

PS.

Want to help even more? I’d love it if you would share the pre-order bonuses far and wide. Click here to share the pre-order page on Facebook. (I’ll even draft your post: KJ Dell’Antonia’s How to Be a Happier Parent is finally almost here—and if you pre-order now, she’s got bonuses. I did!)

Or click here for a fun, editable tweet about the bonuses.

Thank you. You all are the best. KJ
