It was Sam, my big guy’s, turn to have a rough day. It was a teacher in-service day for Sam and Lily, and Lily fulfilled a long-overdue wish to go to school with Rory and Wyatt. I don’t think she had as much fun as she expected to, but that’s another story.
Sam and I planned to go ski Killington with friends. The weather was less than super, but a morning skiing was doable (half-price day for locals, too!). But the friends cancelled on us at the last minute (I know you are sorry!). And Sam was crushed. No one else was free last minute. There was no pulling a rabbit out of a hat. It just wasn’t going to be the day he wanted to have. I made several alternative offers. I said we could just go. But still he cried. This was a little bruising to the ego…
And then he pulled it together, announced that he would still like to go, and we went. Half a day’s skiing. An early departure because of predicted freezing rain. He said he would be a good sport about it, and he was.
And I ended up being, as I often am, so proud of him. That kid is the happiest, most resilient kid in the world.
And who can be bummed when feeling that wind in your face zooming down a mountain?! I’m so glad you still went and had some Mom-Sam time.
